Leadership

“Knowledge, Behavior, Relationships, Decisions, Reputation”

“to know how to take thought for other humans in such a way that they have all that they need in abundance and that they will all be the kind of people they need to be”

Looking for leadership Slowly Activity

Step One

  • Gaze is forward looking directly at you
  • Thick eyebrows
  • Full Mustache
  • Light goatee
  • Partial Smile
  • Shaven Hair

Step Two

  • The view of the portrait shows an age when he is old enough to lead but young enough to relate with the younger generation. Seems quite organized but moves quickly with the pace pf life. Seems outgoing and very extroverted. Looks friendly and compassionate but can be challenging and direct when something needs to be done. resilient and a very strong ability to address and control a room

Step Three

  • As for the man in this image, he seems like the type of black entrepreneur to create a company in which it serves the black community. Reaching all people but striving to change the misconception that black people tend not to succeed.

Step Four

  • I would have the person in this picture address the need for unity within our country as well as the business sector. He would a successful businessman in where his company is a clear image of what ‘Corporate America” should look and feel like. The main opposition that he would face would be others on his level who do not want to see change in the corporate sector.

Step Five

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” -Albert Einstein

Step Six

  • I could definitely exhibit these skills in this scenario but I would struggle quite often
  • The ability to show patience when addressing people who’s ideals completely contrast from my own
  • My character compares closely to them through the means of self-motivation and the ability to move further than others say you can.
  • Within this next week I believe the view of others on online-school and their views of my success virtually would be more obstacle to overcome this week.

Who I believe to be is good at bringing out the best in others.

As surprising as this may sound the first person to come into my head when asked that question is Lebron James. Why is he the person who pops into my head? I think it starts with his ability to make the people around him perform better both on the court as well as in real life. He carries a lot of the attributes of a leader that many want but never achieve. He’s caring, when someone is hurt his first priority is to make sure his teammate is doing OK and has the proper help to make them feel better, regardless of what is going on in the game. He has the ability to command a room, going into press conferences can be both intimating and stressful due to so many people sitting there ready to take what you have to say and run on a narrative. But when LeBron enters that press room it seems as if he is the one asking the questions because his mannerism and swagger controls the way room.

Plotting my leadership development

  • understanding clearly what the mentee is truly capable of (potential) and what real opportunities are available for the mentee to pursue (possibility). Easy
  • modeling the proper behavior for the mentee by telling stories that the mentee may see themselves in (e.g., Odysseus and Orestes). Easy
  • activating the mentee’s sense of shame/aidōs (in a positive way) to help the mentee realize that they are not living up to their potential. Hard
  • giving the mentee a clear and specific set of instructions to effectively carry out the behaviors that are necessary for their leadership development. Easy
  • helping the mentee build a support structure, or “crew”, to help them take the journey they need to take. Hard
  • helping the mentee form partnerships that will solidify their reputation for leadership and foster future collaboration. Easy

In my life I have a handful of friends because I’m someone who prefers to keep my friend circle quite small and manageable. In this friend group I have 5 friends that I have known since I was a little kid, of these friends there are 2 that everyone knows has so much potential but they just choose not to acknowledge it. These two special fiends of mine are named Jackson Levitt and Sarah Corvell. Throughout school I’ve tried to be a good mentor and invest in these talents specifically but I wish before we graduated that I had shown them and helped show others their gifts so that when we all separated they would have others to push them.

Important Things from Chapter 2.

  • Athena announces to Zeus, king of the gods, that she will put courage (Greek menos) in Telemachus
